We live on the Earth. It is very, very  big and  beautiful. There are a lot of rivers, lakes, seas, forests, fields and mountains on it. The Earth is full of different animals, birds and fish. But why is it crying?
One day the earth woke up, said
"Boy I feel half dead
Somebody's turning up the poison
And it's getting in my head
Sometimes I wish my guests
would move away somewhere
Yes I'm burning up all over
I can't even breathe the air
Save me now, save me now, save me now come on and
Save me now, save me now, save me now
One day the earth woke up, said
"Boy it's getting hot
And remember all those trees I had
Well now there ain't a lot
And my eyes kept slowly trickling
Down to where the party's at
And if everybody's going there well
That's the end of that"

I’m your environment. I’m everything around you - clean water to drink, fresh air to breathe and healthy food to eat. You can‘t live without plants and animals. They make the soil, clean water and give food. But people forget about it.
I used to see the stars at night.
I used to hear the birds.
I used to feel the warmth of the sun.
I used to smell the springtime flowers. And sing so happily.
I used to sing a song about  the beauty of the world.
It was a long, long time ago, I used to sing a song.
Before the black smoke filled the sky,
I used to sing a song.
I used to sing a song about  the beauty of the world.
Did you use to see the stars shining in the night?
Did you use to hear the birds and feel the sun?
Did you use to smell the flowers?
Their colours were so bright.
I used to sing a song about  the beauty of the world.

I am your air. I give oxygen and you can live. But I’m very polluted now. Factories and cars pollute me. Nuclear power stations make me dangerous for lives.
Clean air-I can’t breathe now,
Tall trees- people cut them down.
Green hills – people build roads.
Where they go, people don’t know.
Blue sky – now it’s black.
Good rain – they’ve made it bad.
Green hills – they build roads.
Where they go, they don’t know.

I’m the rain. Look at me ! I’m not fresh and clean. Now my name is Acid Rain. I harm lakes, rivers, seas, plants and animals.
-Исполнение песни группы Creedence « Have you ever seen the rain?»
Im the soil. People use chemicals and pollute me. Every day they dump rubbish. I’m a big dump now.

Look at this table and listen to approximate decomposition times in a landfill.
 traffic ticket- 1 month/
 banana peel- 6 months/
 wool sock- 1 year/ wooden stakes- 4 years/
painted wooden stake- 13 years/
tin cans- 100 years/ aluminum cans and plastic bottles- 500 years /
glass containers- never.

I’m the water. I’m very important for life. But many rivers, lakes and seas are poisoned. They are used for dumping industrial and nuclear waste. A lot of fish and reptiles die.
I’m  Lake Baikal. I’m the deepest  lake on the Earth. I’m very beautiful, but now I’m in danger. My water is polluted. It can kill fish, reptiles, animals and plants.
Lake Baikal, called "the Pearl of Siberia" is the world's oldest and depeest lake. Located in the south of the Russian region of Siberia, between Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest and the Buryat Republic to the southeast, it is the richest  freshwater lake in the world. Baikal is home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals. A lot of tourists visit this wonderful place but it is in danger now because of factories.
Once there were green fields kissed by the sun,
Once there were valleys where rivers used to run,
Once there was blue sky with white clouds high above,
Once they were part of an everlasting love.
Green fields are gone now, parched by the sun,
Gone from the valleys where rivers used to run,
Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart,
Gone with the lovers who let their dreams depart.
-Исполнение песни  Крис  Ри «The road to hell»
I’m the forest. I’m home of animals, birds , trees and plants. But now I’m in danger  too. Every year a lot of trees are cut down and burnt in fire. Many animals and birds die out.
All woods are homes for animals,
So you must behave like guests.
You only look and never touch
The birds and rabbits’ nests.
I’m a dodo. You have never seen me. Many years ago people killed all dodos. Nowadays  you can see dodos only in the pictures.
I’m a passenger pigeon. You have never seen me. The last passenger pigeons were killed in 1914.
You know the Red Book has the list of endangered animals, birds and plants.
The first Red Book appeared in 1966.It was the great work of scientists all over the world.
In Russia the book appeared in 1983.Now many  different countries have this important book.
Its title is symbolistic, it is the sign of danger. The colours of pages are symbolistic too. The black pages have extinct species, the red-endangered, the yellow- alive, the green- little-studied, the white- unstudied.

Let’s read some pages of the Red Book.
An okapi is one of the animals Europeans have known only since 1901.It was very well known to people living in Zaire. It is a beautiful big animal like a giraffe without a long neck. People from Europe wanted to hunt them and very soon a lot of the animals were killed. But  not all of them died. Some animals live in zооs and in forests nowadays.

The golden lion tamarin comes from Brazil’s forest near the sea. The forest there is disappearing fast. People could easily catch these animals and sell in pet shops. There were only a few left in the rainforest.
Indian tigers and African elephants are in danger too. There are few these animals on the Earth now because of hunting. And the question is : Have these animals got a future?

“Little bird, little bird, come to me!
I have a pretty cage you can see;
Many bright  flowers I’ll bring to you,
And fresh, ripe cherries, all wet with dew.”
“Thanks, little girl, for all your care,
But I dearly love the clear, cool air;
And my  cosy little nest in the old oak – tree
Is better than your pretty cage for me.”
“Little bird, little bird, where will you go
When all the fields are covered with snow?
The ice covers the old oak – tree;
Little bird, little bird, stay with me!”
“No, little girl, away I’ll fly
To greener  fields and a warmer sky;
When spring comes back with cheerful rain,
My joyful song you will hear again.”
So, the problem now is to protect life on the Earth, to save our nature. That’s why April 22 is Earth Day. A lot of people try to protect our environment. There are some ecological organizations which want to help our nature.
Our Earth is so wonderful and our life is so beautiful! Don’t forget about it!
Don’t kill the world!
Don’t  let  the Earth down!
Do not destroy the ground!
Don’t kill the world!
Don’t kill the world!
Don’t  let  the Earth down!
Help her  to survive! Don’t kill the world!
-Исполнение песни группы Ace of base   «Beautiful life »

Remember some important rules to protect the environment :
Don’t  waste water, gas, energy, natural resources.
Don’t  poison the water, air and soil.
Don’t  dump or pour industrial waste into rivers, lakes, seas and oceans.
Don’t  turn the planet into a rubbish dump.
Walk or use a bicycle instead of going by car.
Keep environment clean.
Save water, gas, energy.
Plant more trees.
Feed birds in winter and help them to survive in the cold.
Clear rubbish from lakes and rivers.
Recycle used material as metal, bottles and paper.

 It’s a wonderful world.
I see trees of green, red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more, than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of the people going by
I see friends shaking hands, saying, "How do you do?"
They're  really  saying, "I love you"

-Today we have Flowers’ party.
-Today we’ll  enjoy  their colourful  dresses, hear their nice voices and hear their wonderful stories.
Let’s listen to some proverbs about flowers.
"The world is a rose; smell it and pass it to your friends." -Persian Proverb.
"Where flowers bloom so does hope."
"Each flower is a soul opening out to nature."
"The Earth Laughs in Flowers."                                                                                                             "True friendship is like a rose: we don't realize its beauty until it fades."
   "Flowers are love's truest language."
"In joy or sadness, flowers are our constant friends."
"Bread feeds the body indeed, but the flowers also feed the soul." -The Koran
"The flower that follows the sun does so even on cloudy days."
"All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today." - Indian Proverb
Seed: Do you know how flowers  grow?
A plant will grow from a tiny seed,
Some water and sun is all I need.
Roots: First the roots grow underground
They suck up minerals from all the ground.
Steam: Then come stems, some tall, some stout.
And next the branches spread about.
Leaves: Leaves growing all shapes and sizes
Watch this new life as it rises.
Plant: Red and yellow, pink and blue
The gayest flowers are just for you!
See them dancing in the breeze,
          - And let’s listen to their song, please.
- Песня « All the pretty flowers are blooming »
All the pretty flowers are blooming,
Red and blue, and yellow, green , and white.
All of them are very fresh and lovely growing everywhere.
We all love to see them smile.
La-la-la-la……….

A lot of flowers  are symbols. Let’s learn some of them, please.
- Carnation: The formal name for carnation comes from Greek for "heavenly flower", or the flower of love. For the most part, carnations express love, though there are many variations dependent on colour. Light red carnations represent admiration, while dark red denote deep love and affection. White carnations represent pure love and good luck. Purple carnations indicate capriciousness. The pink carnation is the symbol of a mother's undying love. In France and Francophone cultures, carnations symbolize misfortune and bad luck. In China, a carnation is a symbol of marriage.
-Chrysanthemum: The national symbol of Japan, a symbol for long life. The chrysanthemum, also known as the "Autumn Flower", is one of the four "honourable plants. In most ancient essays and poems, writers use the terms " icy body, pearl petal and red heart" to describe the flower. For on cold autumn days, when all other flowers were fading away, only the chrysanthemum was able to flourish in the cold winds.
-Daffodil : symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings, the daffodil is virtually synonymous with spring. The daffodil is the national flower of Wales, where it is traditional to wear a daffodil or a leek on Saint David's Day .
- Iris :faith, faithfulness, wisdom, friendship, hope, promise in love. The iris is the emblem of France; Florence, Italy; and the state of Tennessee.
-Poppy: A symbol of death. Red poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Day (11 November), which commemorates the dead of the First and Second World Wars. In Greek mythology, the poppy was associated with Demeter, goddess of fertility and agriculture.
-Roses :happiness, friendship, love, strength, beauty. To symbolize love and passion, use red roses. For virginity and purity use white roses. To symbolize infidelity, use yellow roses. In Catholicism, red roses are a symbol of the Virgin Mary.
-Tulips : remembrance, hopelessly in love, cheerful thoughts, forgiveness, elegance, grace, and fame. Cream colored tulips mean I will love you forever.
-Let’s enjoy the dance of flowers.

-Listen of some riddles and try to guess them.
It is the 1st flower to pop up above the ground in spring. ( a snowdrop)
You can see its blue head in the cornfields in summer. (a bluebell)
When it blooms in spring, it looks like a sun. ( a dandelion)
It can be of different colours, but it is always the queen of the flowers. ( a rose)
It is often white and smells good, it is very beautiful. ( a lily)

Summer brings tulips, lilies, roses. Full the children’s hands with posies.
A cherry year, a merry year, A plump year, a fine  year.

Would you like to enjoy the song «I like the flowers»?
I like the flowers,
I like the daffodils,
I like the mountains,
I like the rolling hills,
I like the fire sight when the night is on.

 --------------------------

Flowers here, flowers there,
Flowers are growing everywhere.

I like flowers that are bright
I like flowers that are white
I like flowers with a nice smell
That blossom in garden so well.

There are a lot of unusual flowers on our planet.
Titan Arum   had the title "worst smelling flower in the world." The plant grows from a large tuber .The flowers emerge when the tuber is up. The plant then produces a large, petal-like leaf ,which forms a vase. The outside is green; the inside is the color of red meat. From the center of the vase, a tapered column-like stem  grows straight up.
Corpse Lily  The largest flower in the world it is actually an insect‘s eater. It relies completely on its host to provide it with roots, leaves, stem. The lily is 1meter  wide bloom and  has thousands of seeds .Flowers have bad smell.
Sarracenia   is a plant  of seaboard . The plant's leaves have evolved into a funnel in order to trap insects. They fall inside, where they die. Pitcher production begins at the end of the flowering period in spring, and lasts until late autumn. At the end of autumn the plants produce leaves .
Sundews can reach 4 feet. The flowers are large relative to the size of the plant. They are white to pink, but some groups have orange, red, yellow or violet blooms. In most species, the flowers bloom on columns, beginning with the flower at the base of the column and moving toward the tip.
The Venus Flytrap is a plant that catches insects. It is a small plant as a rosette of four to seven leaves.  The Venus Flytrap is one of a very small group of plants capable of movement. It  is found in savannahs. And is not a tropical plant, it can live in mild winters.
Bladderwort  is a plant living in water. It has no  roots, their stems and leaves are unimpressive, and when not blooming, the plant looks like slime. The flower eats insects too. All types, they  are easy to grow as houseplants.
Lithops   is a flower  living in  stones because of how they seem to flower out of stones in Africa, the name  is Stone-like. The flowers do not have the typical green stem with green leaves, but seems to grow out of stone. The plants have yellow or white flowers, and the leaves are  grey or brown.
Night-blooming Cereus .  A  tall  cactus grows  in the sand. It looks dead. And yet, sometime in June or July, this ugly waste will transform into the "Queen of the Night." The night-blooming cactus opens its white flower and perfumes the air. At  night insects feed on the nectar. In the morning, the flowers close up, never to open again.
- It was very funny to be at the party of flowers, but a good beginning makes a good ending. And our party is coming to the end. Let’s sing a song “Million roses ”.

Million roses. Translated by Boris Anisimov
There lived an artist alone who sold his paintings and home
And left his palettes behind for this one purpose alone.
This famous actress he loved only red flowers preferred,
So for his money he bought one million roses for her.
Anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, she could turn,                                                                    Everything in the square down below blooming red.                                                                     Those in love, those in love, those in love, she would learn,
Gladly leave things behind for a glance instead.
Early next day she did rise hardly believing her eyes –
One million roses below under the blue morning skies.
She thought that gift must have come from some unknown tycoon
Leaving the artist alone standing there all afternoon.

Only a minute she spared for his enormous bouquet
After a late show that night she left for  good on a train.
There stayed the artist alone, poor and completely forlorn,
But he would never regret the city with roses adorned.
